When to start with Apple Dictation

If you mainly want to put spoken words into a text field, try the dictation already included with your Mac. In System Settings > Keyboard, enable Dictation, choose a language and shortcut, and test a short paragraph in your usual app. Apple's guide covers availability and setup.

Apple also supports proofreading and rewriting through Writing Tools. On a supported setup, select text and open Writing Tools to choose a change. A need for rewriting alone does not mean you need another app.

When Stirae's workflow may help

Stirae requires an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 13 or later, app setup, and a valid trial or paid entitlement. Compare the current plans and requirements with the features you actually need.

Compare the processing settings too

For Apple Dictation, the text below Dictation in Keyboard settings explains whether general text dictation uses on-device processing or requires internet access. Check that information on your Mac. Apple explains where to find it.

Stirae transcribes microphone audio on your Mac. Cloud refinement and translation send text and the instructions needed for the request. Use Refinement Off and Same as Spoken to avoid those cloud text features; account and entitlement requirements still apply. See Local transcription and cloud processing.

Try the same task in your own workflow

  1. Choose a short paragraph you would ordinarily write, with fictional names and dates for the test.
  2. Use the same microphone, language, room, and destination app.
  3. First compare direct transcription. If you want rewriting, evaluate each tool's rewriting workflow separately.
  4. Check names, numbers, questions, uncertainty, and meaning. Count the corrections you need rather than judging only how polished the text sounds.
  5. Try recovery when automatic insertion does not land in the intended field. In Stirae, the latest result remains on the clipboard until replaced.

This gives you evidence for your own app, accent, terminology, and writing tasks. Neither this page nor the fictional examples elsewhere on the site establish an accuracy or speed advantage.
