Profiles
Stirae adapts your writing to the current app or supported-browser website. Create a profile for Slack, Mail, a website in a supported browser, or another Mac app — and Stirae uses the right style, refinement, and language automatically.
What's in a profile
A profile combines your refinement level, writing style, spoken language, and output language for one app or supported-browser website. Each profile you create appears under the app's name or website host, and Stirae applies those settings whenever you dictate there.
Set up a profile
Open Profiles
Go to Settings > Profiles. You'll find Default Profile at the top of Your Profiles, followed by your app and website profiles.
Choose your settings
Click New Profile and choose your Refinement, Writing Style, Spoken Language, and Output Language. Choose a fixed spoken language — profiles you create don't use Auto Detect. Writing Style is only required when Refinement is Light Cleanup or Full Rewrite.
Choose where it applies
In the same window, set Use With to Application or Website. Choose your app, or enter a Website Host and optionally choose a specific browser. Once you've chosen all the required settings, click Save. The next time you dictate there, Stirae uses the profile automatically.
Default Profile
Default Profile applies everywhere you haven't created a specific profile, and whenever a matching profile is disabled. Edit the first row in Your Profiles — changes affect those apps and supported-browser websites without overriding your enabled profiles. Default Profile can be edited, but it can't be disabled or removed.
Edit or pause a profile
Click a profile row, or choose Edit from its menu, to change its settings. For a profile you've created, you can also change where it applies. Use Search profiles to find the one you want.
Choose Disable to keep a custom profile for later while using Default Profile in its place. Choose Enable to use it again, or Remove when you no longer need it.
Only one profile can be enabled for the same app or supported-browser website host at a time. If Stirae shows Profile Already Exists, edit the existing profile or disable it before enabling another one for the same target.
Website profiles
You can use different settings for different supported-browser website hosts in the same browser. For example, mail.google.com can use polished writing for email while app.slack.com keeps a more casual style.
Website profiles match the exact website host, such as docs.google.com. You can paste a full URL — Stirae keeps just the host. URL paths, wildcards, and fuzzy matches are not used.
Website profiles work in Safari, Google Chrome, Brave, and Microsoft Edge. A profile can apply in any supported browser, or just the browser you choose.
Other browsers use the profile for the browser app itself, or Default Profile. Per-website switching is not available in those browsers.
How Stirae picks a profile
Stirae uses the app or supported-browser website where you started recording, even if you switch apps or tabs afterward. It picks the most specific match it can find:
- A website profile for a specific browser — e.g.,
mail.google.comin Safari - A website profile for any supported browser
- An app profile — e.g., Mail, Slack
- Default Profile
If the matching profile is disabled, Stirae uses Default Profile. If the website can't be detected, Stirae checks the browser's app profile, then Default Profile.
The menu bar shows which profile Stirae is using, with Default Profile controls below for your baseline settings.
Common setups
A few ways to start:
- Keep Default Profile as your general baseline.
- Create a profile for Slack with the writing style you use for messages.
- Use a Professional writing style for Mail, or for
mail.google.comin a supported browser. - Create a profile with Light Cleanup for VS Code or Xcode.
- Create a profile for
docs.google.comif you want different behavior in documents than in email.
