Refinement
You choose how much Stirae reshapes your words. Leave them as-is, apply Light Cleanup for small fixes, or use Full Rewrite for polished prose — it depends on what you need for that moment.
Off
Stirae inserts a direct transcription of what you said. It does not fix grammar, rewrite sentences, or polish the wording. Vocabulary and Voice Shortcuts still apply.
Use this when you want the fastest result or when you want Stirae to stay as close as possible to your original words.
If Output Language is set to a different language and translation is available for the run, Stirae can still translate while Refinement is Off. That translation-only path preserves your wording and does not apply Writing Styles.
Light Cleanup
Stirae makes small fixes to spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, repeated words, and obvious filler words. Your wording stays close to what you said.
Light Cleanup does not rewrite your sentence structure, change your tone, or replace your phrasing just because another version might sound smoother.
Full Rewrite
Stirae turns your dictation into more polished written language. It can restructure sentences, fix awkward or non-native phrasing, and improve sentence flow — while keeping your meaning and intent.
Use this when you want the result to sound more finished, especially for emails, documents, longer messages, or non-native phrasing.
Where to set it
Use the menu bar quick control to switch between Off, Light Cleanup, and Full Rewrite whenever you need. To choose your default, open Settings > Profiles > Default Profile > Edit....
If you change Refinement while recording, the change can still affect that run. Once Stirae starts transcribing, later changes apply only to the next run.
What Refinement protects
Light Cleanup and Full Rewrite preserve your meaning, facts, intent, question/request type, and vocabulary terms. They should not invent information or turn a question into a statement.
