Writing Styles
The same thought can sound casual, polished, or concise depending on where you're writing. Writing Styles let you control that tone — pick a built-in style or describe your own, and Stirae shapes your dictation to match.
Built-in styles
- Professional — Clear, formal tone for work messages and documents
- Casual — Relaxed, conversational wording
- Polite — Warm, respectful phrasing without adding new sentiment
- Concise — Shorter, more direct wording
Creating custom styles
Open Settings > Writing Styles and click New Writing Style. Give the style a name, then describe how you want Stirae to write. Short, plain instructions are enough.
Custom styles apply conservatively with Light Cleanup. Use Full Rewrite for tone, framing, or structure changes.
Examples:
- "Keep it short and direct."
- "Use precise technical language."
- "Format as bullet points with clear action items."
- "Sound warm and polite, but not overly enthusiastic."
- "Never use exclamation marks."
Custom styles are useful for repeated writing situations, such as Slack replies, client emails, code review notes, meeting summaries, or support follow-ups.
How styles work with Refinement
Writing Styles apply only when Refinement is turned on. They do not affect Voice Shortcuts, raw insertion, or translation-only runs while Refinement is Off.
With Light Cleanup, Stirae keeps your wording close to what you said, so style changes are subtle. With Full Rewrite, Stirae can adjust tone, phrasing, and structure more fully, so your selected style has a stronger effect.
