Troubleshooting

When something isn't working, Stirae surfaces recovery actions in the menu bar or as a brief HUD notice. Here are the most common situations.

Microphone access needed

Stirae can't record without microphone permission.

Fix: Follow the recovery action in Stirae, or open macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and allow Stirae.

Text insertion access needed

Stirae needs this permission before it can start recording. If access is missing, it opens a repair window.

Fix: Follow Stirae's repair steps, or open macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility and allow Stirae.

Keyboard shortcut problems

Shortcut can't register, conflicts with another app, or needs repair.

Fix: Open Settings > Recording, click Change Shortcut, and assign a new one. Or use Reset to Default for Function/Globe.

Text copied to clipboard instead of pasting

If insertion fails after recording, Stirae copies the result to your clipboard.

Fix: Paste manually with Cmd+V. If it keeps happening, check that Text Insertion Access is enabled.

Cloud refinement unavailable

Cloud refinement or translation can't run for this dictation.

Fix: Check the reason in the HUD or Settings > Account > Cloud Access. Common causes: offline, sign-in needed, usage limit reached, service issue, no active plan.

Monthly limit reached

Your cloud token allowance for this period is used up.

Fix: Check Settings > Cloud Usage for your reset date. Consider upgrading to Max for 2× capacity.

Settings save failed

"Couldn't save" means the change didn't commit. Previous settings remain active.

Fix: Try the save again. This applies to Writing Styles, Vocabulary, Voice Shortcuts, Profiles, and Recording settings.
