Ways to Record

Stirae has two recording modes: Push-to-Talk and Toggle. Use Push-to-Talk for quick dictation, or Toggle when you want to speak longer without holding a key.

Each recording can last up to 10 minutes. At the limit, Stirae stops recording and processes what you have already said.

Push-to-Talk

Hold your shortcut to record. Release it when you are done, and Stirae processes the dictation immediately.

Best for quick replies, short messages, and brief notes.

Toggle

Press your shortcut once to start recording. Press it again when you are done.

Best for longer dictation, when you want to pause, think, or speak without holding a key.

Changing modes

Open Settings > Recording to change how Stirae starts and stops recording. From there, you can switch between Push-to-Talk and Toggle, change your keyboard shortcut, or reset the shortcut to Function/Globe.

Tip
Start with Push-to-Talk. When you begin dictating longer paragraphs, try Toggle so you can speak without holding a key.

Keyboard shortcut

The default shortcut is the 🌐fn key. To change it, open Settings > Recording and choose Change Shortcut.

If a new shortcut cannot be saved or conflicts with another shortcut, Stirae keeps your previous shortcut active and asks you to choose another one.

Supported shortcuts

A regular key combined with one or more modifiers:

For example, you can use Function/Globe+A without adding another modifier.

Or a modifier-only shortcut:

For modifier-only shortcuts, use one of the pairs above. To use Function/Globe on its own, choose Reset to Default.
